Hopefully you have enjoyed the long summer days and are now refreshed and ready for the start of term. As a child, I enjoyed my school holidays so much that I never wanted them to end! You may feel the same way – don’t worry, that’s only natural.  There’s plenty to look forward to in the days ahead – think of all the new books and stationery, the display boards freshly covered and everything so clean and tidy awaiting your return to school!

The song ‘One More Step’ reminds us that as we travel onto new things, God is at our side. Perhaps you know it already? Maybe you would like to sing it right now – if you do, click here for the music and words.

A Prayer for September

Thank you Lord for all of the abundance that summer has brought: for the long days; for the sunshine and for the dry grass to play on. Thank you for the birdsong which is a lovely backdrop to our time outside. Thank you too for all the colours of nature – the many shades of green, the vibrant flowers, the amazing patterns on the wings of a butterfly. The natural world is full of so many miracles.

Thank you for all the joys of summer, and for the joys of the new journey ahead. I know you are with me as I embark on a new term, guiding me as I travel on.

Amen.

Do you play an instrument? You might play percussion instruments at school - which is great for developing rhythm. You may play the recorder. If you do, you might want to try learning this little hymn. Is a modern tune and is a real favourite at St. Andrew's. We enjoy singing it prayerfully and sometimes it's played during the collection.  Take note that it has C sharp and F sharp.

If you want to hear it being played, click here

From the Bible...

September 29

The story of the Saints Michael, Gabriel and Raphael

In the Bible, angels are messengers from God. The word ‘angel’ comes from the Greek word for a messenger and it appears hundreds of times in the Bible. But the only angels whose names we know are Michael, Gabriel and Raphael who are archangels, captains among the angels. Each of these three has a different task: Michael protects; Gabriel announces; Raphael guides.

In the New Testament, in the book of Revelation, Michael leads God's armies to final victory over the forces of evil and in the Old Testament he is in the book of Daniel, defending Israel against its enemies.

Gabriel is best known for his appearing to a young Jewish girl named Mary to tell her that she will give birth to Jesus.

Raphael is in the Old Testament story of Tobit where he guides Tobit's son Tobiah.

And now for the second part of the Joseph story (part 1 was shared last month):

And for a little fun...

Can you find your way through the maze?

A wordsearch with a Joseph theme...

Oh, and there's a few harvest mice still around if you want to print them off and colour them in...
